Throwing Things Out Is In

More than 7,000 people have joined a Facebook page for those who wish to simplify their lives by getting rid of things and clothes they don’t need, RÚV reports. The time of year is approaching where consumption reaches a peak, but Þórhildur Magnúsdóttir, one of the creators of the Facebook page People Embracing a Minimalistic Lifestyle (Áhugafólk um mínimaliskan lífstíl), suggests the best Christmast gift is an experience, such as a ticket to a concert, rather than a thing.

She maintains people work too much in order to earn money to buy things they don’t need, instead of enjoying life, relaxing and focusing on what matters most. Children, she claims, need fewer toys than most people imagine, and adults only use a quarter of their clothes.

On the page, you can, among other things, find ideas for activities to do every day before Christmas instead of purchasing cheap items for every day.
