Police officers in the capital area had a lot to deal with last night and into the night. Among other things, three drivers in different situations tried to evade police officers. Then there was one armed man who tried to escape on the run, to name a few.
A total of 99 cases were booked into the police system from five in the afternoon yesterday to five this morning, and eight spent the night in police custody.
When police officers tried to stop the driver, he tried to escape while driving. He failed and then tried to run away, but according to the police log, he was caught and arrested.
The man had drugs and money and is suspected of selling and distributing drugs. He was also armed with a knife and will be charged for that.
Then another driver tried to evade the officers and drove at high speed and broke numerous traffic laws before he was caught and surrendered. He was found to be both unlicensed and under the influence of drugs, and he also had drugs on him.
In another case, police received a tip about a driver who appeared to be very intoxicated and had been “driving around the neighborhood in various ways,” according to a police log. He refused to stop when officers approached and tried to escape. He failed, and then attempted to escape on two separate occasions.
However, he was not fast enough and was caught and arrested.
Two other armed men
Police were called to the scene after a man had broken a door trying to enter a house. When officers arrived and spoke to the man, they discovered he was armed.
Another such case occurred in the area of Police Station 1, which covers East, Central and West Reykjavík, as well as Seltjarnarnes, where a man had been at a nightclub talking about being armed. When police officers approached, he tried to run away.
As seems to be the case with most people, the man failed to do so, and was indeed armed and arrested.
Running on a pedestrian
Among other cases on the police’s desk is a pedestrian who was hit, but the injuries were considered minor. Several drivers were also stopped without a license and/or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
A man who was harassing residents of a house in the area of Police Station 4, which covers Grafarvogur, Mosfellsbær and Árbær, broke a window in the house. He was in a very strange condition and was placed in a holding cell.
One person was arrested for disrupting police work in downtown Reykjavík. He did not obey repeated orders to stop.
There were reports of thefts in several stores. No one was arrested and the cases were resolved with a field report.
