Three New Prosecutors Appointed in Iceland

By Iceland Review

Minister of Justice Ragna Árnadóttir appointed three new prosecutors to the office of the special prosecutor yesterday, which is responsible for investigating the banking collapse. Arnthrúdur Thórarinsdóttir, Björn Thorvaldsson and Hólmsteinn Gauti Sigurdsson were chosen from a group of 11 applicants.

Thórarinsdóttir is the assistant prosecutor at the Capital Region Police, Thorvaldsson a prosecutor at the Attorney General’s office and Sigurdsson has served as assistant prosecutor at the office of the special prosecutor for the past months, Morgunbladid reports.

Sigurdsson said he was certain that his two new colleagues would strengthen the office considerably; he himself will use his education and work experience within the judiciary and police division as best as he can.

Minister Árnadóttir decided to reinforce the office of the special prosecutor at the request of Norwegian-French magistrate Eva Joly, who serves as advisor to the special prosecutor, Ólafur Thór Hauksson.
