A young Icelander arriving from Paris was caught with three kilos of amphetamine hidden underneath a false bottom in his suitcase at Keflavík International Airport on Monday. He was sentenced to three weeks of custody yesterday.
This is among the largest amphetamine cases at Keflavík Airport, Morgunbladid reports.
According to Eyjólfur Kristjánsson, chief lawyer at the Sudurnes police department, the man was caught during customary inspection. “It was the achievement of very close cooperation between police and customs at the boarder control.”
Currently six individuals are being held in custody at Sudurnes because of drug smuggling. So far this year, Sudurnes police has confiscated about 7.5 kilos of illegal substances.
