Three injured in Icelandair flight

An Icelandair passenger airplane on its way from Iceland to Paris yesterday was caught in serious turbulence over Britain, resulting in three crew members suffering minor injuries.

The airplane dropped perhaps as much as 100 meters in the turbulence. Food trolleys were thrown up in the air and trays and other stray objects flew around the airplane. Morgunbladid reports.

The airplane continued its journey and landed at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris at noon yesterday. No one was seriously injured, but passengers were offered crisis counseling.

Passenger Magnús Ásgeirsson, who is assistant captain for the airline XL Leisure Group, said the crew of the Icelandair airplane had done an excellent job.

The Icelandic Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB) has begun an investigation of the case in cooperation with the British and French aircraft accident investigation boards.
