Three Girls Survive Plunge into Ocean

Police say it was very lucky that three young women did not suffer serious injuries last night after losing control of their vehicle and driving it into the ocean in Skutulsfjördur fjord near Ísafjördur, the capital of the West Fjords.

The road in the area where the accident occurred was recently coated with a new layer of asphalt, leaving the road slippery, Morgunbladid reports.

The car ran off the road and into the ocean. The driver and the two passengers were all wearing seatbelts. None were harmed by the impact and all managed to get out of the car and to land on their own accord.

According to police in Ísafjördur, the accident could have been much more serious. A diver was required to fasten a towrope to the car so that it could be winched back ashore.
