Bláfjöll, the Icelandic capital region’s ski resort, opened yesterday for the first time this winter and 2,000 skiers took advantage of the opportunity. Weather permitting, the resort will be open as of 2 pm every day this week.

“The conditions were great. We couldn’t have asked for a better opening,” Magnús Árnason, managing director of the ski resort, told Fréttablaðið.
“We have made additions to snow fences all around and it has helped with accumulating snow in the slopes. If we had had snow guns we would have already produced snow for the entire winter,” Magnús added.
He expects good skiing conditions to last throughout this week and perhaps into the next.
