More than 8,000 people have signed an online petition launched by Icelandic signer-songwriter and nature-lover Björk to urge the authorities to stop the sale of HS Energy to Canadian company Magma and for the Althingi parliament to hold a national referendum on the ownership and the utilization of Iceland’s energy resources.

At her press conference at the Nordic House on Monday, Björk urged Icelanders to sign the petition. People who sign the petition must be Icelandic residents as they must include their kennitala, social security number, Morgunbladid reports.
At the press conference Björk asked whether Magma’s acquisition of HS shouldn’t be investigated in the same manner as the banking collapse, stating that many things were unclear regarding the sale.
With the petition website, Björk and her fellow campaigners also intend to enlighten the public about the nature of the HS Energy acquisition agreement.
