The accident occurred when the edge of the road collapsed. The driver of the truck had moved slowly to the side of the road because of a car coming the other way, ruv.is reports.
An eyewitness stated the lives of many lambs were saved because of how quickly they were pulled out of the truck. Otherwise there would have been a risk of suffocation.
The lambs were driven to the farm Straumur and kept there while the car was pulled back up and its undercarriage repaired. It was decided that the truck would then move on with both the dead and surviving lambs.
