Third Victim in Human Trafficking Case?

Fréttablaðið reports that a third woman is believed to be a victim in the human trafficking case in Vík í Mýrdal, where a man was arrested last week, suspected of keeping two women in forced labor.

The paper states the third woman is from Sri Lanka, as are the other two women and the suspect. The woman is said to have been badly treated by the suspect and reportedly is under the protection of authorities, as are the other two victims. Te South Iceland police has declined to comment, citing the interest of the investigation. The suspect will be in police custody for 30 days.

The suspect founded Vonta International in July of 2014, RÚV reports. Until last week, the company was a subcontractor for clothing manufacturer Icewear. The man’s wife has lived in Iceland for 11 years, but he has been here for a much shorter time. The wife has twice had a restraining order issued against him and the third one is awaiting confirmation in court.
