Approximately 800 people gathered on Austurvöllur square in front of the Icelandic parliament yesterday to protest against the government and specifically Minister of the Interior Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir. This is the third Monday in a row that a demonstration takes place on Austurvöllur.
The protest was organized by a group calling themselves Jæja-samtökin. People are protesting the government’s actions and lack of actions, demanding that politicians prioritize the public’s interests over the interests of political parties, mbl.is reports.
Yesterday’s demonstration was headlined: “Jæja, Hanna Birna!” (‘Come now, Hanna Birna!’), urging the minister to step down following the latest developments in the leak affair: her assistant has confessed to having leaked confidential information one year ago.
Among speakers at the demonstration were author Illugi Jökulsson.
