Theater Festival Kicks Off in Reykjavík

The theater festival Lókal begins in Reykjavík today and will run until September 5. The program includes the show “The Great Group of Eight” held by the Kviss búmm bang trio where spectators have the opportunity to be national leaders for three to four hours.

“There aren’t any spectators, people who are in the show are participants, those who experience the world that we have structured,” Kviss búmm banger Eva Björk Kaaber told Morgunbladid of her work. The show is a reference to the G8 summits.

The first “The Great Group of Eight” show begins tomorrow at 11 am with an inaugural ceremony at the National Theater’s Workshop (Smídaverkstaedi).

Each participant will be interviewed, he or she is then prepared for the role and watches a video of what qualities a good national leader should posses.

“Everything is controlled so people don’t have to be afraid to be fabulously flipped out or having to spin. Shy people are in good hands,” Kaaber said.

Those who are interested are encouraged to register by calling (+354) 898-3412 or visiting the festival’s website,, where further information about the festival’s program can also be found.
