New numbers from Netflix reveal which TV series Icelanders ‘binge race,’ defined as watching the whole season within 24 hours of its release, RÚV reports.
Streaming services have changed how viewers watch TV shows with the implementation of releasing entire seasons at once. Netflix revealed this week that 8.4 million of its users have binge raced an entire season of a TV show. Binge racing on Netflix has increased over 20-fold in the last four years.
Though Iceland did not rank among the top 20 countries in binge racing, its most binge raced show, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, also came first globally.
Here are the ten shows which most Icelanders watched within a single day:
- Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
- Marvel’s The Defenders
- Santa Clarita Diet
- Friends From College
- The Seven Deadly Sins
- The Ranch
- White Gold
- F is for Family
- Stranger Things
- Atypical
“There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from being the first to finish a story — whether it’s the final page of a book or the last, climactic moments of your favourite TV show,” Brian Wright, Netflix’s vice president for original series, stated.
