It is still snowing in Reykjavík, but residents have heeded the warnings of police and rescue squads not to leave home unnecessarily, thereby reducing the number of emergency calls, RÚV reports.
Rescue workers have been called out to assist drivers of 50 cars that got stuck. There are 135 rescue workers with 35 vehicles currently assisting residents. Police have 15 cars ready to respond.
The wind is dying down in the south, as the weather system moves to the northeast. Travel conditions will be poor in many parts of the country into the evening hours.
