A letter that the murderer left in the car in which he committed suicide shortly after killing a man who had recently started a relationship with his ex-wife appears to have been written before the attack. In the letter the man explained that jealousy had driven him to commit the murder. According to Fréttabladid daily, the man had been harassing his ex-wife for a while.

The murderer shot his victim with one shot in the chest. The cause of death was excessive bleeding in the lungs. It has neither been established how the man acquired the rifle he used for the atrocity nor whether he sabotaged the car of the victim so it had to stop in Saebraut where the murder took place.

The investigation will probably be finished within the next few days. This is the first murder in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Iceland for nearly two years. In August 2005 man was stabbed to death in Reykjavík.
