The Flying Mackerel (Video)

A few years ago most Icelanders had never heard of the mackerel, a fish that used to stay out of Icelandic waters. Now it has changed its behavior for some reason, and is fished in great quantities.

The fish stay together in schools and often come quite close to land and can sometimes be seen from the office windows of Iceland Review, because they make a great splash.

On Wednesday the mackerel went crazy in the harbor at Rif on Snæfellsnes peninsula. Some of them even jumped on shore. Here we feature a video by Þröstur Albertsson. After about 15 seconds one of the fish rises from the water and dances on top of the sea for about half a minute.
