The end of parking meters

Soon parking meters will be no more in Reykjavík when car owners will be able to start paying for parking with their credit cards using automatic ticket machines this month.

The ticket machines are part of the city’s plans to make it easier for car owners to pay for parking, Morgunbladid reports.

Early next year parking cards and scraping tickets will be introduced. The car owner will scrape off the date and time of when he parked the car and leave it on display in the windshield.

The cards will be valid for a limited period of time, at least for a week at a time, and will be available on the internet.

This new method for paying for parking has already been tested in Copenhagen, where it proved to be a success.
