Statistics Iceland has calculated the average operational cost per student in primary schools in Iceland. Primary schools are free in Iceland and run by the municipalities.

In September 2013, the average cost per student turned out to be ISK 1,467,000 (USD 12,200, EUR 9,000), which is a 3.9 percent increase from last year.
