On Sunday, American entrepreneur Jonathan Taplin bought the domain thebestparty.org, which is the name of Besti flokkurinn, Icelandic comedian and new Reykjavík Mayor Jón Gnarr’s political party, in English.

In an interview with Fréttabladid, Taplin doesn’t rule out the possibility to run under the party’s name in California; the next election takes place in November.
“The US and Iceland are facing the same problems,” Taplin said. “We have a few ruling parties who always talk about the same things and don’t get anything done. I think Jón Gnarr has an interesting approach.”
Taplin worked as a concert organizer in the 1970s and, among other projects, participated in the organization of a charity concert for Bangladesh in 1971. Performers included Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
Taplin has also been involved in the film industry. He produced Mean Streets, which was released in 1973 and made director Martin Scorsese a star.
