Stationery with the heading “Thank you for being a role model” will be distributed to homes in Iceland today and tomorrow, visir.is reports. The stationery is meant for writing letters to those who people see as their role models in one way or another. This is a part of a special campaign of encouragement called “Til Fyrirmyndar” or “A Role Model,” dedicated to Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, Iceland’s former president.

Today marks the thirtieth anniversary of her becoming the world’s first woman to be elected head of state in a democratic election.
Today, the restaurant Idnó by Reykjavík’s Pond will be open from 2 pm, inviting people to come and write their letters. Among those writing letters will be Vigdís Finnbogadóttir herself.
