Thai-Icelandic Association Celebrates New Year

According to the Thai calendar, year 2551 began on April 14 and the Thai-Icelandic Association celebrated the occasion in the Vodafone sports hall in Reykjavík last weekend. At least 200 people attended the festival.

Chair of the association Phetchada Khongchumchuen told Fréttabladid the new year was celebrated with Thai national dances and traditional Thai dishes, but Icelandic traditions also marked the celebrations because Icelandic cakes were served for dessert.

A beauty pageant for cross-dressers was also held, and Khongchumchuen said the male participants had been so feminine that it had been difficult to tell their true sex.
