The annual “Outstanding Young Icelanders” awards were announced by President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson at the University of Iceland yesterday.
The awards are run by Junior Chamber International (JCI). On the jury were Katrín Jakobsdóttir, head of the Left-Green Movement, Vilborg Arna Gissurardóttir, adventurer, Ari Kristinn Jónsson, rector of the University of Reykjavík and Sigurður Sigurðsson, president of JCI in Iceland, ruv.is reports.
The ten Icelanders to receive the award this year are:
Alexandra Chernyshova, composer
Aníta Hinriksdóttir, student and athlete
Anna Pála Sverrisdóttir, lawyer and human rights advocate
Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, CEO of Landvernd Icelandic Environment Association
Hans Tómas Björnsson, pediatrician
Haraldur Freyr Gíslason, kindergarten teacher and musician
María Rut Kristinsdóttir, psychology student and outgoing chair of the University of Iceland Student Council
Sigríður María Egilsdóttir, speaker and actress
Sævar Helgi Bragason, scientist at the University of Iceland
Þorsteinn Baldur Friðriksson, director of Plain Vanilla Games.
