Around 10,000 people have deregistered from the Church of Iceland in the past three years, Fréttablaðið reports.

Roughly 3,000 people deregistered during a two-month period in 2010 following revelations of sexual offenses within the church and their handling. So far this year, around 1,100 people have deregistered.
The church faced criticism earlier this year when the current bishop, Agnes Sigurðardóttir, participated in the Festival of Hope, a Christian festival which had the U.S. evangelist Franklin Graham, known for his anti-gay marriage beliefs, as its main speaker.
There are currently 245,000 people registered as members of the National Church of Iceland, according to Statistics Iceland. Individuals registered as being outside an organized religion have increased by around 6,000 since 2010.
