American internet giant Amazon has founded the publishing company Amazon Crossing, which will concentrate on translations and release ten books by Icelandic authors in the US next year, both in paper form and electronic versions for Kindle.

On the occasion of Iceland being the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany next fall, Amazon Crossing has decided to become a partner and sponsor of Fabulous Iceland, Iceland’s marketing project for the fair, and fully present its publication plan in Frankfurt, Fréttabladid reports.

“I find this very good news because the American market is usually very difficult,” said Halldór Gudmundsson, project leader of Fabulous Iceland.

“With very few exceptions, the American market has mostly been closed off to Icelandic literature and therefore we have an amazing opportunity here. It has never happened before that one publishing company has decided to issue ten books by ten different authors at the same time,” Gudmundsson added.

Representatives of Amazon Crossing will choose the ten books in the coming months.
