Teenagers hospitalized after drinking contest

Two teenagers were hospitalized last weekend with alcohol poisoning after participating in a drinking competition in the town of Saudarkrókur (pop.2700) in northern Iceland, reported Morgunbladid.

The competition, advertised in the local paper, drew 12 contestants, 10 male and 2 female, most of whom are said to have been underage. The winner, who downed 36 shots, was a 29 year old local female. 14 bottles of hard liquor were emptied at the event.

According to media reports, the police arrived at the bar, called Bar – inn, after the paramedics were called to the place. The case is currently being investigated. All the underage drinkers are said to have been unconscious when the police arrived.
