An 18-year-old boy died in a traffic accident near Akureyri yesterday afternoon, mbl.is reports. The car, in which he was traveling alone, collided with a truck near the farm Einarsstaðir in Kræklingahlíð, a short distance north of Akureyri.
The boy was transported to Akureyri Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. There were three people in the truck, and they all escaped with minor injuries. Ring Road 1 was closed for two hours.
Police are investigating the accident.
