Teenager’s Body Found in Reykjavík Marina

The 19-year-old male reported lost on New Year’s Day was found dead yesterday. His body was discovered in Ellidavogur, Reykjavík’s marina. Police are launching an investigation into his death and would not comment on it further at this stage.

The young man was last seen leaving nightclub Broadway in central Reykjavík at 5:30 am on New Year’s Eve and people thought he was going to walk home. When he had not turned up in the afternoon of New Year’s Day, he was reported missing, Morgunbladid reports.

An extensive search began in which more than 100 search and rescue team members participated. Boats, divers and search dogs were used as well as the Coast Guard helicopter TF-GNA. Search teams focused primarily on the area around Ellidaá river.

Yesterday evening the teenager’s body was discovered in the marina. Police would not give the media any other information. According to Morgunbladid, an autopsy will probably be needed before deciding which course the investigation will take.
