Teenage Gardeners Celebrate Summer

Teenagers who do gardening work for Vinnuskóli Reykjavíkur (The Reykjavík Job School) will celebrate this summer’s harvest festival in Klambratún park today. Yesterday some of them took a dip in Ellidavatn lake during their break.

The water was cold, the teenage gardeners admitted to Morgunbladid’s journalist, but still said it was nice to take a cool break from sweating in the sun while digging and raking.

It is customary for teenagers in Iceland to have a summer job and the youngest teens (13 to 16-year-olds) often register for outdoor gardening work with their local “Job School,” commonly known as unglingavinnan.
