Taxi driver Gudni Ragnar Eyjólfsson, who was driving in Reykjavík suburb Kópavogur towards Hafnarfjördur yesterday, suddenly noticed that his car was on fire. Eyjólfsson and his passenger managed to escape and both were unharmed.
“I noticed that oil was leaking by the Kópavogur stream and then white smoke rose out of the engine,” Eyjólfsson told Fréttabladid. “I stopped and got out of the car. Then it just burned, my car, this fine Benz.”
Fire fighters rushed to the scene and put out the fire in ten minutes.
The taxi driver said his car was towed to a garage to see whether it was damaged beyond repair. “As the car was my work place I have to hurry up and get a new one; that is the only thing I can do.”
