Tarantulas, Scorpions and Snakes Found at Airport

By Iceland Review

Last month the Customs Office at Keflavík International Airport confiscated three live tarantulas and two imperial scorpions that were found in the luggage of travelers. The man who carried the scorpions also had four snakes hidden in his clothing.

The animals were caged and taken to Keldur, the University of Iceland Institute for Experimental Pathology, to be put down the same day, visir.is reports.

It is forbidden to import reptiles to Iceland. The ban was imposed because of serious diseases in humans caused by salmonella infection that can be traced back to such pets.
