Tame Pigeon Hawk Visits Ísafjördur Headmaster

A pigeon hawk flew into the garage of Jón Reynir Sigurvinsson, headmaster of Menntaskólinn á Ísafirdi (the West Fjords junior college), on Saturday night and was reluctant to leave, so Sigurvinsson let it spend the night in his garage.

Sigurvinsson told Fréttabladid that when he noticed the bird fly into his garage he followed it inside. “When I got in I saw that it sat comfortably on a bike and did not appear to want to leave.

Sigurvinsson thought the pigeon hawk might be injured and therefore gave it permission to spend the night. The following day the headmaster went to check on his visitor.

“It sat on my hand and stayed put for a while,” Sigurvinsson said. Then the bird flew away and rested on a traffic sign a short distance away from the garage. “I think it will be all right.”
