Tall Ship Race Held in Iceland

The Icelandic Championship in tall ship race was held on Skerjafjördur fjord off the shore of Reykjavík last weekend. Six rounds were sailed according to an IRC handicap system under the supervision of sailing club Ýmir in Kópavogur.

The tournament began on Friday under good weather conditions and a total of eight crews participated. The crew of Dögun, last year’s winner, were in the lead on Saturday and maintained it until the end of the tournament, Fréttabladid reports.

There was a fight for the second place and the crews of Aquarius and Lilja were neck-to-neck until the last minute.

In the end, the crew of Aquarius (including singer-songwriter Björn Jörundur Fridbjörnsson of Ný dönsk) placed second and the crew of Lilja came in third.
