Swedish advisor to prepare report on psychiatric care for children

Icelandic health authorities have commissioned Dr. Anders Miltoon, a special advisor to the Swedish government, to prepare a report on the conditions of psychiatric care for children in Iceland. A total of 98 children and adolescents are currently on waiting lists for psychiatric care at the children’s and adolescents’ psychiatric care facility (BUGL) at the National University Hospital, Fréttabladid reports today.

Health authorities in Iceland have long been criticized for inadequate measures when it comes to dealing with the psychiatric problems of children and adolescents. About half of those on the waiting lists received referrals last year, some as early as April.
