The two men suspected in the disappearance of Birna Brjánsdóttir and whose custody was approved today have denied charges, Vísir reports.
Birna is a twenty-year-old Icelandic woman who has been missing since Saturday morning. There are three suspects in the case, but so far, custody has only been requested and confirmed for two of them. All three are Greenlanders and crew members of the trawler Polar Nanoq.
“No confession has been made, and, thereby they have denied charges or failed to express themselves. They deny charges,” Chief Superintendent Grímur Grímsson stated.
“It shouldn’t be surprising; in such investigations, confessions aren’t made immediately. Sometimes, they’re never made, because sometimes it turns out that we don’t have the right men. Of course that can happen,” he remarked.
The search for Birna will continue in the Strandarheiði area on Reykjanes peninsula, Grímur noted. It has not yet been decided whether to request custody of the third suspect.
