Suspect Interrogated Today

The man suspected in Birna Brjánsdóttir’s death was interrogated this morning, RÚV reports. The 20-year-old Birna disappeared in downtown Reykjavík on January 14, and her body was found on the south shore of Reykjanes peninsula eight days later.

Chief Superintendent Grímur Grímsson told RÚV that the suspect has not confessed to the crime.

Police custody of the suspect expires tomorrow, but by then he will have been in isolation for four weeks. Given the severity of the case, it can be assumed that the police will request an extension of the custody tomorrow. Grímur stated a decision in that regard will be made by early afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning.

Grímur noted that results of biological samples from the investigation are still being awaited, as is a final autopsy report. Aside from that, he described the investigation as going well.
