Surtsey Conference

The town council of the Westman Islands agreed at a meeting yesterday to orgainse a conference on Surtsey Island in cooperation with the Ministry for the Environment.

Surtsey Island was formed by an underwater eruption in 1964 and has been under close observation by scientists. The Westman Islands town council is interested in allowing limited numbers of tourists to the island for the first time.
