The popularity of the party of Mayor of Reykjavík Jón Gnarr, the Best Party, has collapsed since the municipal elections last spring, down from 35 percent to 19 percent, according to a new survey conducted by Gallup on behalf of national broadcaster RÚV.

If elections were held today, the Best Party would only earn half as many city councilpersons as after the 2010 elections, three instead of six, visir.is reports.
Support for the Best Party’s coalition party in the City Council, the Social Democrats, increased by two percent since the elections and now measures 21 percent. Even so, the two parties would not sustain their majority in the council.
The Independence Party gained the most support, five percent, and is now backed by 40 percent of the electorate. Support for the Left-Green Movement is up from seven to 13 percent.
