Supernova: Votes up by 50 percent from last week

The number of votes cast in Iceland in connection with the Rock Star Supernova contest was up by more than 50 percent last night over last week’s total, when a record number of votes were cast. A nationwide campaign was launched again yesterday to urge Icelanders to vote for Magni Ásgeirsson, the sole Icelandic contestant on the US reality television show in which a rock band searches for a frontman- or woman. Last night’s episode is the second-last in the series, and the last in which voting is permitted. This is reported in all the main media.

A special ‘warm-up’ program was held on Skjár 1, the TV channel broadcasting the Supernova show, prior to last night’s broadcast, to help generate excitement and encourage Icelanders to stay up to vote. Viewers can only vote for four hours after the episode is broadcast, which in Iceland is from 2 am to 6 am. The results – and whether Magni manages to avoid the axe – will be announced this evening.
