Sunshine in Reykjavík Every Day in June

The Reykjavík meteorological office detected sunshine every day this month. The sun shone the longest uninterrupted for 17.6 hours on June 22. The capital region has not suffered from draught, unlike the Flóinn agricultural district in south Iceland.

“Everything is dry as a bone in Flóinn,” Ólafur Snorrason, director of water utilities in Flóinn, told Morgunbladid. “The groundwater decreased considerably after the earthquake in 2000 and it has certainly not increased since then.”

“Cracks in the lava fields have opened up and it has snowed so little for the past few years that the ground water levels are low and ditches empty in the entire Flóinn area,” Snorrason explained. “The Flóinn district is trying to get water from elsewhere.”
