Sudurlandsvegur highway widened within four years

Sturla Bödvarsson said yesterday that with the assistance of private projects the notoriously dangerous Sudurlandsvegur in south Iceland will be widened to twice its size within the next four years.

According to RÚV, 8,000 citizens have signed a letter demanding the government prioritizes Sudurlandsvegur and an immediate widening of the road from Raudavatn lake to Selfoss.

MP Björgvin G. Sigurdsson explained that there is a cross-political agreement in south Iceland on the importance of improving the safety on Sudurlandsvegur, which has claimed the lives of 54 people since 1972, two last weekend.
