A trial project run by the city of Reykjavík is offering university students housing in an elderly care centre.
The project entails renting apartments to university students in a senior care centre in central Reykjavík. In exchange for the living space, the students will volunteer for various projects intended to improve seniors’ quality of life, such as leading social media workshops or workshops in their area of interest, such as art or fitness, as well as generally providing company and support to the seniors.
The project is based on similar models which have been successful abroad, for example in Holland. It is expected to last from February 1st until July 1st of this year. The post states the rental conditions will be similar to those offered through Icelandic Student Services.
