Strong Winds Prevent Cruise Ship from Anchoring in Reykjavík

Yesterday, the AIDAluna was unable to anchor in Reykjavík’s Skarfabakki harbor due to strong winds. The cruise ship was scheduled to pick up 52 passengers arriving by air.

Port Authority told Morgunbladid the wind speed had reached 28 meters per second yesterday evening.

The AIDAluna is one of the largest cruise ships that docks in Skarfabakki, weighing roughly 69.200 gross tons and measuring 255 meters long.

Cruise ships traveling to Iceland in the summer season rarely encounter difficulty when anchoring in Skarfabakki harbor. It was Hafsúlan, a whale watching ship, that brought the 52 passengers to the AIDAluna.
