By Iceland Review

Gusts of up to 50 meters per second were recorded at Kjalarnes on the outskirts of the greater capital area earlier today, ruv.is reports.

Strong wind has been accompanied by snow, sleet and rain in the south and western parts of the country and similar conditions are forecast for the northeast this afternoon.

The storm will continue into tomorrow with the strongest wind in the south and southwest. Rain or sleet is forecast for all parts of the country tomorrow with the exception of the northeast. Winds will increase in strength in the West Fjords by tomorrow evening.

Many roads around all parts of Iceland excluding the south are currently icy. Domestic flights were cancelled this morning. Contact your airline for the status of afternoon flights.
