The Icelandic Met Office has issued a weather warning for tonight. A very strong low pressure system will be approaching the country tonight from the south, moving north, with strong, rapidly increasing, easterly winds, which will turn southerly after midnight.
Wind speed will be 18-25 meters per second. The worst weather is expected on the east coast with a severe gale (20-30 meters per second) from the south in some areas late tonight and through tomorrow morning.
The gale will be accompanied by considerable rain in the east and southeast, but less precipitation is expected elsewhere. Tomorrow afternoon, southwesterly winds, 15-25 meters per second, are expected with showers or snow showers in the south and west. Winds will die down rapidly tomorrow night.
In addition, the Met Office has declared a stage of uncertainty in terms of avalanche risk in East Iceland.
