Storm Warning This Evening

By Iceland Review

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a storm warning for this evening in Southwest Iceland and the central highlands.

The agency predicts a rather major blip in the cool but fine weather that Iceland has experienced over the last few days, but also says the weather will get better again quickly.

A depression is currently approaching Iceland from the south, bringing increasingly strong easterly winds. The weather is set to become increasingly cloudy this afternoon, with some sleet in the south.

The wind will increase as the day goes on and the cloud will get progressively thicker, first in the southwest. Winds in Southwest Iceland and Reykjavík will hit 15-23 meters per second this evening, with rain or sleet, but elsewhere in the country can expect a calmer and drier evening.

Tomorrow will bring winds of 13 to 20 meters per second, with snow and later sleet in North Iceland. Elsewhere will see rain—including some very heavy rain in Southeast Iceland.

The wind will die off slowly throughout tomorrow, first in the south. The temperatures will also start creeping up again tomorrow, ranging from four to ten degrees Celsius, but colder in the northeast.
