Storm Floods Boat in Keflavík Harbor

Emergency services in Sudurnes region, southwest Iceland, were called out several times yesterday because of a raging storm. A 180-ton boat broke free and drifted onto the beach in Njardvík and a small boat sank in the Keflavík harbor.

The wind blew Sunna Líf KE over and it sank shortly afterwards. Emergency services decided to wait for tides to reclaim the boat. They managed, however, to bring the beached Tjaldanes GK-525 back to the pier with the aid of a tractor and refasten it, Fréttabladid reports.

Police and search and rescue teams also received several call-outs because roof slates, fences and garden sheds were blown away by the wind. The weather improved in the afternoon and the danger blew over.
