The streets of Reykjavík were empty as gale force winds moved over the south cost of Iceland yesterday morning. The wind force measured 43 meters per second by Mt. Hafnarfjall close to Borgarnes, and police warned drivers to be careful driving past the mountain. All rescue teams in the Greater Reykjavík area were called out. The storm caused quite a bit of damage. It tore up roofs and moved loose items around. Two containers blew out into the harbor in Kópavogur. Four large trailers and one camper flew off the road near Borganes. No injuries were reported.
