Stock Value of Iceland’s deCODE Increases

The currency rate of stocks in Icelandic genealogy company deCODE Genetics rose considerably in the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York yesterday, by 22.22 percent. When the market closed each share was worth USD 1.65 (EUR 1.04).

According to Morgunbladid, the value of deCODE’s stocks increased by USD 0.30 (EUR 0.19) between days. The currency rate for deCODE’s stocks has not been higher since May 9, when they were worth USD 1.67 (EUR 1.06).

Trade involving deCODE’s stocks was also unusually extensive yesterday; 1.2 million stocks exchanged hands which has not occurred for at least one year.

It is not clear what is causing this recent interest in deCODE, but it may have something to do with coverage of genealogy research in Iceland on NBC for the past two days where deCODE Genetics played a key part.
