Steering Group to Form Reykjavík Energy’s Policy

The new majority coalition in Reykjavík City Council announced yesterday that a steering group had been appointed to form the comprehensive policy for Reykjavík Energy Company (OR), partially owned by Reykjavík City.

According to ruv.is, the steering group is also responsible for investigating the legality of the merger between Reykjavík Energy Invest (REI), in which OR holds a share, and Geysir Green Energy (GGE), and an independent group of specialists will determine the worth of REI on the steering group’s behalf.

The steering group is obligated to submit a report to Reykjavík City Council before December 31, 2007.

Svandís Svavarsdóttir, a Left Green majority council member, heads the steering group and leaders of other parties in Reykjavík City Council will also participate in the investigation, including Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson of the Social Democrats, Björn Ingi Hrafnsson of the Progressive Party and Margrét Sverrisdóttir of the Liberal Party.
