The 13th annual auto festival will be held in Akureyri this weekend. The organizers guarantee a weekend of cars, races, rubber and steel.
“We’ve been holding a auto show on June 17 [Iceland’s national holiday] since 1974, but we turned it into a auto festival 13 years ago” Björgvin Ólafsson, the chairman of the Akureyri car club, told 24 Stundir.
“The will be several competitions and races, for example cruising and of course the most popular event, the drag race. We are expecting good weather and a lots of cars, sports cars, custom-made cars, all kinds of cars” Ólafsson said.
Ólafsson does not believe that the ever-increasing gas prices are going to effect the festival. “When you start racing, the money just seems to disappear, but I hope that people drive safely to Akureyri and home again. That’s the whole point and the only thing we are concerned about.”
